| Dear Classmates, I am sorry that I am unable to be with you at the reunion. I know you will have a lot of fun, and I am looking forward to receiving the Reunion booklet. Just to let you know a bit about what I have been doing for the past fifty (gasp) years, I have lived in New Jersey, Indiana, Kansas, California, Nice (in France) and now in Virginia (near Washington, DC where I work as Senior Legislative Assistance for a Congressman from San Diego.) I have been working in electoral politics either as a volunteer or as paid staff, since 1972-except for four years in the 80s when I helped to start the San Diego Alternative Dispute Resolution Center, a way to solve disputes without going to court. I was a junior high school teacher in the 1960s I really love Washington.
My work includes preparing briefings for the Congressman on bills
that he must vote on, preparing speeches for events in his district and
the remarks that he gives in the House of Representatives, meeting with
constituents and lobbyists, and staffing his work on the House
Veterans’ Affairs Committee. I
also take advantage of the many museums, art exhibits, lectures, theater
and other events at the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in my
non-work time. You may
recall that I liked drama and debate in high school.
I still do! My son David also lives here.
He has recently gone back to school to finish his degree and
start on a new career path after being a chef for nearly twenty years.
My son Blair is the creative imaging director for four radio
stations in Seattle. My
daughter Carol also lives in Seattle. She is almost finished writing her dissertation for her Ph.D.
degree in archaeology from UCLA, and she has an adopted daughter from
Guatemala, Natalie, who is the sweetest little 18 month-old girl that
ever was. Carol spends most
of her summers in Peru, at archaeological sites.
My “significant other”, Doug Duffield, also moved here from
San Diego a year after I moved. He
recently retired from his position as computer analyst at Northern
Virginia Community College and is enjoying the task of making our garden
beautiful, among other adventures. My e-mail is Sharon.schultze@mail.house.gov
and I would love to get an e-mail from any or all of you. Best Wishes, |
